genderreport_coverEarlier this year, representatives from Grassroot Soccer, Sonke Gender Justice, the Family Violence Prevention Fund, and several other organizations gathered in Cape Town to strategize on using the 2010 World Cup to fight gender-based violence.

“Plenty of people are looking to make money out of 2010,” said GRS co-Founder and Managing Director Kirk Friedrich in his opening remarks.  “We are looking to make something good out of it.”

“This is not just about men or women; gender is about all of us and how we change power imbalances,” said Sonke Gender Justice co-Director Bafana Khumalo. “The focus is on 2010 and how we engage men in preventing gender based violence and the further spread of HIV/AIDS.”
